on the bound: I watched Beauty and the Beast for the first time since I was a kid...

freefiona:

I watched Beauty and the Beast for the first time since I was a kid the other night. (IN 3D!!!) (I took my niece if you’re wondering).

I never realized it when I was a kid but that movie is fucked up.

  • Why is Belle considered “odd” because she likes books and doesn’t want to marry Gaston?

The fucked up thing about Beauty and the Beast is it has the “Knocked Up” syndrome. The girl is:

  • Smart
  • Funny
  • Attractive
  • Kind
  • Compassionate
  • Empathetic
  • Also has random talent (in BATB it’s a beautiful voice, in KU it’s a great job.)

The Beast is

  • Illiterate
  • Cruel
  • Attractive as a prince, but definitely not Prom King in his beast form
  • A monster
  • Someone who locks Belle and her father up for making a very obvious mistake

Yes, eventually the Beast turns back into his human form, is taught how to read, and becomes a stand up guy. But the MESSAGE is, no matter how perfect you are as a woman, and no matter how horrible he is as a man, finding a man should be your top priority.

This is the theme of all Disney movies. Princess and the Frog being, in my opinion, one of the worst offenders.
